Intro

My team was excited to share how many “nibs” and “brushes” they had created for the iPads and Wacom tablets, so that they could “skip a step” in creating illustrations for brands like Sharpie, Parker, and Papermate. While a great step toward efficiency, it was a step away from authenticity, and the life of the product experience was missing. While it was hard feedback to give - and for them to receive - we agreed on a policy of using the actual product, and refining everyone’s skills, so that no drawings had any chance of being cheated. A few times, artwork had to be completely redrawn, but the process we improved for gathering partner feedback, and the richness of the new illustrations let us know we had done the right thing.
